It will allow the Forest Department to outsource the\nresponsibility of reforesting to non-government agencies, if implemented. This\nscheme will encourage plantation by individuals outside the traditional forest\narea and will help in meeting international commitments such as Sustainable\nDevelopment Goals and Nationally Determined Contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Daily Current\nAffairs Quiz 2020<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scheme will also supplement the Green India Mission, which\nis one of India\u2019s initiatives to combat climate change. Green Credit Scheme\nallows agencies (private companies, village forest communities etc.) to\nidentify land and grow plantations. After three years, the land would be\neligible to be considered as compensatory forest land if it meets the criteria\nset by the Forest Department. An industry needing forest land could then\napproach the agency and pay it for parcels of such forested land and this would\nthen be transferred to the Forest Department and be recorded as forest land.
