Cabinet Approves Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has recently approved the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), a comprehensive initiative aimed at addressing the challenges faced by Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). This scheme, with a substantial total outlay of Rs 24,104 crore, reflects the government’s commitment to uplift tribal communities across the country.Announcement and AllocationPrime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the PM-JANMAN on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in Jharkhand’s Khunti, emphasizing the significance of empowering these communities.

  • The scheme has received a nod from the Union Cabinet, with a central share of Rs 15,336 crore and states contributing Rs 8,768 crore.

    • Focus on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal GroupsSeventy-five communities spread across 18 states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been identified as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

  • These groups continue to grapple with vulnerabilities in social, economic, and educational sectors.
  • The PM-JANMAN aims to address these challenges and uplift the PVTGs to ensure their holistic development.

    • Key Interventions and Ministries InvolvedThe PM-JANMAN is designed to implement 11 critical interventions, spanning across nine ministries, including the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

  • The comprehensive approach ensures that various facets of the PVTGs’ challenges are addressed collaboratively.
  • The involvement of multiple ministries showcases a concerted effort to create a holistic impact on the lives of tribal communities.

    • Ministry of Ayush’s Role

    • The Ministry of Ayush plays a pivotal role in the PM-JANMAN initiative by establishing Ayush Wellness Centres in line with existing norms.
    • These wellness centres aim to provide traditional Ayush healthcare facilities to PVTG habitations.
    • Additionally, the scheme envisions extending Ayush facilities to PVTGs through mobile medical units, ensuring healthcare reaches the doorstep of these vulnerable communities.

    Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

  • To enhance the socio-economic conditions of PVTGs, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is actively involved in facilitating skill and vocational training.
  • The scheme envisions the establishment of training centers in PVTG habitations, multi-purpose centres, and hostels.
  • This approach aligns with the skills prevalent in these communities, fostering sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment.
