Some notable names among Assamese novelists and writers are: Rajanikant Bardlai, Laxminanda Bara, Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya, Mamini Raisom Goswami, Navkant Baruwa, Syed Abdul Malik, Devananda Acharya .
Some Notable Assamese Novels:
Bhanumathi by Padmanath Gohain Baruah: The novel Bhanumati or ‘Bhanumoti’, published in 1890 is the first Assamese novel. From literary point of view it is regarded as the first Assamese novel.
Miri Jiyori (মিৰি জীয়ৰী) by Rajnikanth Bordoloi (1894)
Sudharmar Upakhyan (সুধৰ্মাৰ উপাখ্যান) by Padmavati Devi (1884): Padmavati Devi
Phukanani published “Sudharmar Upakhyan” in 1884. The significance of the novel was to depict the result of religious and non-religious works.

Mrityunjay (মৃত্যুঞ্জয়) by Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya (1970): This monumental work based on the Quit India Movement and the revolutionary activities of the young generation earned him the Jnanpith Award in 1979 that made him the first Assamese writer to receive the highest literary prize.
