Pobha Milroy Wildlife Sanctuary - Assam

Pobha or Milroy Sanctuary is located in Lakhimpur District of Assam, near the border area of Arunachal Pradesh which is famous for extremely rare species of Asiatic Water Buffalo.

Geography:

Spread on an area of 49 sq kms, this sanctuary was created with the aim of protecting the wild water buffalo. Pobha Wildlife Sanctury is also known as Milroy wildlife Sanctuary in Assam. Pobha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra river. The sanctuary is situated near the border area of Arunachal Pradesh.

Flora and Fauna

Pobha Wildlife Sanctuary has exotic flora and fauna. The topography of Pobha Wildlife Sanctuary consists of the flood plains of the Brahmaputra river. The tract of the area is dominated by swampy and riverine vegetation. The climate of the sanctuary is that of tropical rainforest. The area is marked by humidity. Monsoon in the sanctuary is characterized by excessive rainfall.

The sanctuary is the home to many important species of animals and birds. As the sanctuary has been created exclusively for the protection of the magnificent wild water buffalo so the wild water buffalo is the main attraction of the sanctuary. Wild water buffalo, elephants and migratory birds form the population of the sanctuary.
