2024 Summer Olympics: India’s Performance

The 2024 Summer Olympics took place in Paris, France from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

Highlights:

  • The host city, Paris has hosted the Games a third time celebrating the centenary from the Games in 1924.
  • Gender parity, Paris 2024 was the first Olympic Games in history to have a completely gender-balanced field of play.
  • New sports were introduced, breaking (breakdancing) was new to the Olympics.
  • The opening ceremony had athletes parade for the first time outside a stadium via boat along the Seine river.
  • Venues, some of the sporting venues were converted iconic landmarks in Paris.

India’s Performance:

India sent 117 athletes to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics and they won a total of 6 medals:

• Silver: 1

  • Neeraj Chopra (Athletics – Men’s Javelin Throw)

• Bronze: 5

  • Manu Bhaker & Sarabjot Singh (Shooting – Mixed Team 10m Air Pistol)
  • Swapnil Kusale (Shooting – Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions)
  • Indian Men’s Hockey Team
  • Aman Sehrawat (Wrestling – Men’s Freestyle 57)

India’s overall count included 1 silver and 5 bronze medals.

1. United States: 40 Gold, 44 Silver, 42 Bronze (Total = 126)

2. China: 40 Gold, 27 Silver, 24 Bronze (Total = 91)

3. Japan: 20 Gold, 12 Silver, 13 Bronze (Total = 45)

4. Australia: 18 Gold, 19 Silver, 16 Bronze (Total = 53)

5. France: 16 Gold, 26 Silver, 22 Bronze (Total = 64)
