National Safety Day: History

The first Conference on Industrial Safety was held in 1965 by the Government of India’s Ministry of Labour and Employment. It was held in collaboration with employers’ organisations, state governments, and other trade unions and institutions from December 11 to December 13. In the conference, the various bodies realized the need for setting up National and State Safety Councils.

The proposal for a National Safety Council (NSC) was accepted by the 24th session of the Standing Labour Committee in February 1966. The NSC was formed on March 4, that year, by the Ministry of Labour, and was first registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and then as a public trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950.

The National Safety Day was first marked in 1971 to commemorate the founding of the National Safety Council and raise safety awareness.

Knight Frank Report states that the value of the Prime International Residential Index (PIRI 100) which tracks the movement in luxury house prices across the world increased by 5.2 percent YoY (year-on-year) in 2022.

  • The report analyses prime property price performance in 100 cities, as well as sun and ski destinations around the world. Out of 100, 85 locations recorded positive or flat price growth in 2022.

  • Aspen ranks 2nd with 27.6 percent growth in prices, followed by Riyadh (25 percent), Tokyo (22.8 percent), Miami (21.6 percent), Prague (16.3 percent), Algarve (15.3 percent), Bahamas (15 percent), Athens 13 percent and Porto (12.7 percent).
  • Monaco continues to remain the most expensive city in the world, with USD 1 million buying you 17 square metres of space, followed by Hong Kong (21 square metres) and New York (33 square metres) in 2022.
  • Mumbai ranked second amongst APAC markets, after Tokyo, with a 6.4 percent YoY rise in values even as other regional markets saw declining values.

  • One C-17 Globemaster III aircraft from the Indian Air Force is participating in Exercise Shinyuu Maitri 23.
  • The exercise was held on the 1st and 2nd of March 2023. The first phase of the exercise includes discussions about transport operations and tactical manoeuvring, followed by flying drills with IAF C-17 and JASDF C-2 transport aircraft.
  • The exercise provided an opportunity for the respective subject matter experts to interact and study each other’s operational philosophies and best practices.
  • The exercise also enhanced mutual understanding and interoperability between the IAF and the JASDF.
  • Exercise Shinyuu Maitri 23 is another step in the two countries’ expanding defence cooperation, as well as the IAF’s ability to operate in a variety of environments around the world.
