Parithareswar Devalaya, also popularly known as Dubi Devalaya: This is a temple to Lord Siva at Dubi village near Pathsala. It was built in the year 1662 Saka Era by Ahom King Siva Singha. He made land grants of around 760 Puras (as recorded in Copper-Plate inscriptions) and gave away an idol of Goddess Durga. The history traces that there was a Lingam originally situated on a hillock known as Durabalgiri, later submerged under water. This present temple was built on one of the rocks of the submerged hillock. Rani Phuleswari, queen of Siva Singha, installed an idol of goddess Durga there and introduced a system of worship of the Goddess with Devadasi dance. There is a legend, too, that queen Fuleswari, wife of Siva Singha, was behind bringing “devadasis” or temple dancers from Upper Assam to perform dances for the amusement of the deities of this Temple. The famous dance perspective “Devadasi-Nritya” is said to have originated at this Temple. People from the various locality visit and worship the goddess Durga at this sacred place.
