
Every year, June 23 is celebrated as International Olympic Day around the world, as a celebration of the establishment of the modern Olympic Games and a collective affirmation of the importance of sport in uniting people across borders. In addition, it reminded the world of the importance of the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect, but also encouraged people of all ages and conditions to lead an active and healthy life.
History:
The first official International Olympic Day was celebrated in 1948, and acknowledges the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by Baron Pierre de Coubertin on June 23, 1894 in Paris. Coubertin is widely regarded as the father of the modern Olympic movement and desired the ancient Olympic Games to be revived to obtain international peace and greater physical fitness. In the first year, only nine countries participated, but International Olympic Day has continued to grow into a global event with millions of participants around the world.
International Olympic Day 2025: Theme
The theme for International Olympic Day 2025 is “Let’s Move?”, initially launched by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
