India International Science Festival 2025: Chandigarh Gears Up for Global Science Event

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched the curtain-raiser for the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025, scheduled to be held at Panjab University in Chandigarh from December 6 to 9. IISF 2025 aims to highlight the nation’s scientific accomplishments and encourage active public participation. The festival will bring together scientists, researchers, innovators and students to showcase India’s progress in science, technology and innovation.

IISF 2025 is a gathering point for scientists, researchers, innovators, and students alike. It acts as a stage to showcase India’s progress in science and technology, fostering collaboration and the sharing of knowledge. The event also champions innovation that aligns with sustainable development and economic growth.

The theme Vigyan Se Samriddhi for Atmanirbhar Bharat positions science as a key player in driving prosperity and self-reliance. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, science and technology have taken center stage in national policies. The festival resonates with this vision by emphasizing the importance of reducing reliance on imports and bolstering domestic capabilities in vital sectors such as life sciences, agriculture, fuels, and automotive technology.

IISF 2025 will focus on five key themes:

– Science, Technology, and Ecology of North-West India and the Himalayan Region – Science for Society and Education

– Atmanirbhar Bharat through Science and Technology

– Biotechnology and Bio-economy

– Integration of Traditional Knowledge with Modern Science.

These themes are designed to tackle regional challenges, promote sustainable development, and merge ancient wisdom with contemporary scientific approaches.

The festival brings together institutions from Jammu, Chandigarh, and the Himalayan region. It highlights innovations that are specifically designed to meet local ecological and social needs. Additionally, the event sees participation from national research organizations and universities, ensuring a wide range of representation and promoting inclusive growth in the field of science.

IISF 2025 will feature exhibitions, business meetings, competitions, and cultural programs. These activities serve to connect scientific laboratories with the wider community. They invite students, start-ups, and everyday citizens to get involved, making science more approachable and inspiring for everyone.

The IISF, launched in 2015, has become one of the country’s largest platforms for promoting scientific temper and public participation in science.
