Khanikar Stadium is being redeveloped into Assam’s largest multi-sports complex, with the first phase to be inaugurated on January 30. The project spans 104 bighas and involves an investment of about ₹233 crore.
The project aims to transform the legacy stadium into a modern, world-class sporting complex. The first phase, which stands completed, will have a seating capacity of around 5,000 spectators. Subsequent phases are planned to expand capacity to nearly 35,000.
Work on the upgradation began in 2019 with the objective of creating a comprehensive multi-sports hub. Conceived in 2019, the complex will host athletics, football, swimming and indoor sports, supporting athlete training and enabling Dibrugarh to host major sporting events.
