The State Council of Educational Research and Training has officially announced admission for the 2-Year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) Course for the academic session 2026–2028. The programme will be offered through NCTE-recognized Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) across Assam.

Candidates interested in pursuing the D.El.Ed. course must first appear in the Pre-Entry Test (PET) 2026, which is conducted by SCERT Assam for admission into the course.

The Pre-Entry Test (PET) is a state-level competitive examination for permanent residents of Assam seeking admission into D.El.Ed. institutions under SCERT Assam. Following the recommendations of the Justice Verma Commission, qualifying PET has become mandatory for admission into the D.El.Ed. programme. SCERT Assam has been conducting the PET examination since 2016.

What is PET 2026?

The Pre-Entry Test (PET) is a competitive entrance examination conducted for permanent residents of Assam seeking admission into the D.El.Ed. programme. Following the recommendations of the Justice Verma Commission, PET is mandatory for admission into D.El.Ed. courses in Assam.

PET has been conducted regularly since 2016 for admission into D.El.Ed. (PSTE) courses under SCERT Assam.

Eligibility Criteria

Residency

Only permanent residents of Assam are eligible to apply.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognized board/council with at least:

  • 50% aggregate marks (excluding extra/optional/fourth subject)

Relaxation

  • SC/ST/ST(H) candidates receive 5% relaxation in aggregate marks.

Age Limit

As on 1 July 2026:

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 34 years

Age Relaxation

  • SC/ST(P)/ST(H): 2 years

Reservation Policy

Reservation for OBC/MOBC/SC/ST(P)/ST(H)/PWD/EWS candidates will be provided as per existing Government norms.

Admit Card Availability

From 5 July 2026 onwards

PET Examination Venue

The PET examination centre will be allotted in the district selected by the candidate during online application submission. The venue details will be mentioned on the admit card.

Selected candidates will generally be allotted TEIs within the same district chosen for PET.

Documents Required for Upload

Candidates must upload the following documents in JPG/JPEG/PDF format only:

  1. Recent passport-size photograph (Max: 100 KB)
  2. Signature on white paper using black/dark blue ink (Max: 100 KB)
  3. HSLC Admit Card/Certificate for age proof (Max: 450 KB)
  4. HS (10+2) marksheet and pass certificate (Max: 450 KB)
  5. Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  6. PWD Certificate (if applicable)
  7. EWS Certificate (if applicable)

  4. Login using registration credentials
