TerraPay partners with NPCI International to boost cashless transactions for Indian customers

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Thursday said its international payments arm NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) has signed a memorandum of understanding with TerraPay, Netherlands-based global payments infrastructure company to allow Indians with an active UPI ID to receive real-time, international payments into their bank accounts via TerraPay’s secure payments technology.

NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) is the International arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). TerraPay is Headquartered in The Netherlands. Mr. Ritesh Shukla is the CEO of NIPL. While Ambar Sur is the Founder and CEO of TerraPay.

Govt notifies Certification Scheme for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drones)- to boost indigenous manufacturing

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has notified a drone certification scheme to ensure minimum safety and quality requirements so as to boost indigenous manufacturing. The drone certification scheme was notified on January 26, 2022, under Rule 7 of the liberalized Drone Rules, 2021 will help in simpler, faster and transparent type-certification of drones.

The Government of India has formulated the Digital Sky Platform for registration and operation of drones with an all-digital process. These initiatives like Certification Scheme, PLI (production-linked incentive) Scheme, Liberalised drone rules, airspace map and DigitalSky Platform, will help the drone manufacturing industries in India. Ministry of Civil Aviation in September 2021 had approved a PLI scheme for drones and drone components with an allocation of Rs 120 crore spread over three financial years.

PM Narendra Modi Hosts First India-Central Asia Virtual Summit

Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi hosted the first India-Central Asia Summit on 27 January 2022, through virtual platform. It was the first of its kind engagement between India and the Central Asian countries at the level of leaders. The virtual event will see the participation of Presidents of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The summit is symbolic of the importance attached by the leaders of both sides to a comprehensive and enduring India-Central Asia partnership. The Summit was attended by the Presidents of these five Central Asian countries. The first India-Central Asia Summit coincided with the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Central Asian countries. During the summit, the Leaders agreed to hold the Summit every 2 years (biennial).

Govt extends scope of Advisory Board for Banking and Financial Frauds (ABBFF) to cover all fraud cases involving amount of Rs.3 Crore and above

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on Thursday expanded the scope of the Advisory Board for Banking and Financial Frauds (ABBFF), which would now examine bank frauds of Rs 3 crore and above and recommend action. Till now, the ABBFF was only looking into banking and financial frauds of Rs 50 crore and above.

The ABBFF will examine all cases of total amount involving Rs.3.00 Crore and up to Rs.50.00 Crore.

TVS Motor acquires 75% stake in Swiss e-Mobility Group (SEMG) for $100 million

In a bid to globalize the TVS group and participate in the $25 billion global e-bike market, TVS Motor Company on Thursday acquired a 75% stake in the Swiss E-Mobility Group (SEMG). Further TVS Motor plans to acquire the remaining 25 percent in the company soon.

This is TVS Motor’s second acquisition in Switzerland for FY22. In September 2021, it had acquired 80 per cent stake in EGO Movement for $17.9 million.

SEMG is a market-leading provider of e-mobility solutions within the DACH region. DACH region refers to the three Central European countries of Germany (D- Deutschland(German name of Germany), Austria (A), and Switzerland (CH).

Former Indian Hockey Team Captain Charanjit Singh Passes Away at 90

Captain of India’s 1964 Tokyo Olympics gold medal-winning hockey team, Charanjit Singh, died on Thursday at his home in Una, Himachal Pradesh after suffering a cardiac arrest that followed prolonged age-related illnesses. He was 90.

He was also a member of the Indian team which won silver medals in the 1960 Games in Rome, and in the 1962 Asian Games at Jakarta.

Veteran Marathi author and social activist Anil Awachat passes away at 77

Renowned Marathi author and social activist Anil Awachat has passed away due to a prolonged illness. He was 77. Dr Awachat was hospitalized some days back due to health problems, and he was brought home from the hospital around four days ago, the family member said.

Dr Awachat was the founder of a de-addiction center called Muktangan Rehabilitation Center in Pune in 1986. He was known for his several Marathi books like “Manasa”, Swatahavishayi, “Gard”, “Karyarat”, “Karyamagna” and “Kutuhalapoti”.

Padma Shri awardee Kathakali artist Milena Salvini passes away at 84

Padma Shri winner and famous Kathakali artist Milena Salvini passed away. She was 84.

Salvini was born in Italy but moved to France for learning music. In 1962, Salvini obtained a two-year scholarship training in Kathakali at the Kerala Kalamandalam. In 1975 she opened the Mandapa Centre in Paris to teach Indian classical dance. The Government of India conferred the Padma Shri upon Salvini in 2019 for her contribution to the field of performing arts.

Lucknow’s IPL franchise, which is owned by Sanjiv Goenka (RPSG Group), has been renamed Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction. Lucknow team roped in KL Rahul as their captain and also roped in Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi. The official IPL team of Lucknow crowdsourced its name from fans and a consumer engagement campaign was launched on social media on 3rd Jan 2022.

Besides the Lucknow franchise, which was bought by RSPG Group for a whopping Rs 7,090 crore, Ahmedabad is the other new team bring purchased by CVC Capital Partners for Rs 5,625 crore.
