Amit Shah Inaugurates Turmeric Board HQ in Nizamabad

Amid a significant initiative to empower turmeric farmers and expand export opportunities for the turmeric industry, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, inaugurated the National Headquarters of the Turmeric Board at Nizamabad, Telangana on June 30, 2025. The initiative carries significant weight in terms of the government’s spur to improve turmeric production, branding, research, and foreign trade. The board is well positioned to be transformative for India’s spice economy with a substantial commitment of ₹200 crore and the goal of achieving $1 billion in turmeric export by 2030.

The opening of the National Turmeric Board’s headquarters in Nizamabad reflects a major milestone and one that local farmers have long been asking for. The establishment of the board fulfills a significant electoral promise made by BJP during the 2019 elections to farmers in the region and reflects the Centre’s renewed momentum to promote Indian spices into international markets.

Goals and Objectives

• To achieve $1 billion in turmeric exports by 2030

• To provide turmeric farmers with remunerative prices

• To advance branding, packaging, and marketing

• To support research and development to improve quality

Background and Context

• Nizamabad is a major centre for turmeric farming in Telangana.

• Farmers have long sought a Turmeric Board dedicated to resolving issues facing farmers.

• BJP MP D. Arvind pledged the board in 2019 and defeated K. Kavitha, daughter of ex-CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao, riding largely on that issue.

• Earlier, PM Modi announced the board; today it has been officially opened.
