Assam Government Approves Heritage Grant for Darrang Kings of Koch Dynasty

On February 2, 2026, the Assam government announced a generous ₹50 crore grant aimed at preserving and restoring the heritage of the Darrang kings from the Koch dynasty. This exciting news was shared during the Mahabir Chilarai Divas celebrations in the Darrang district. This initiative showcases the state’s commitment to safeguarding Assam’s rich history, honoring its indigenous rulers, and turning its historical legacy into a vibrant hub for tourism and cultural pride.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed the financial backing of ₹50 crore dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Darrang kingdom. The project will concentrate on restoring royal sites, monuments, and cultural landmarks associated with the Koch dynasty. The Chief Minister has instructed the Darrang district administration and the Public Works Department to kick off the work without delay.
