
The Assam Valley Literary Award was conceived in 1990 by the Williamson Magor Education Trust to celebrate the creative talents of writers who have enriched Assamese literature. This prestigious award is presented annually to writers from Assam and was initiated by the Williamson Magor Group, a well-known tea company.
The announcement of the award was made by Shri B.M. Khaitan, who is the Chairman of the Williamson Magor Group of Industries, during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Assam Valley School on February 11, 1990, in Harchurah, Sonitpur district, Assam. The award includes a cash prize, a scroll of honor made from Assam’s “Muga” silk, and a specially designed golden trophy, which was created by the artist Shri Shobha Brahma from Assam.
