Bureau of Police Research and Development – BPR&D

The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), was set up on 28 August 1970 in furtherance of the objective of the Government of India for the modernization of police forces. It has evolved as a multifaceted, consultancy organization. At present it has 4 divisions – Research, Development, Training and Correctional Administration.
Highlights:

The Bureau of Police Research and Development was set up to fulfil three key aims:
♦ To take an active and direct interest in the issues
♦ To promote a rapid and systematic study of the police problems
♦ To practice science and technology in the methods and techniques used by police
♦ BPR&D was formed in 1970 and had replaced the Police Research and Advisory Council, which was once formed in 1966
♦ The BPR&D comes under the administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs
♦ The 4 divisions of the Bureau of Police Research and Development are:
♦ Research Division
♦ Development Division
♦ Administrative Division
♦ Training Division
