China announced a breakthrough in rail transport, with its newly developed CR450 high-speed train setting a world record speed of 453 km/h during testing. Designed for the Shanghai–Chengdu corridor, the CR450 not only cements China’s leadership in high-speed rail technology but also redefines global standards in ultra-fast, energy-efficient rail mobility.
The CR450 is expected to enter commercial service in 2026, with a regular operating speed of 400 km/h, making it the fastest passenger train globally.
Key higlights:
- China’s CR450 bullet train reached a world record speed of 453 km/h during testing.
- The train accelerates to 350 km/h in 4 minutes 40 seconds, 100 seconds faster than CR400 Fuxing.
- It features a 15-metre aerodynamic nose cone for reduced air drag and noise.
- Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2026 at an operating speed of 400 km/h.
The CR450 is the latest development in China’s ambition to consolidate its global leadership in high-speed rail technology. The country already operates the world’s largest high-speed network, spanning over 45,000 kilometres and connecting nearly all major cities.
