CISF Launches Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) kicked off the second edition of the Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026, a significant national initiative aimed at promoting coastal security and fostering a sense of patriotism. The 25-day event was virtually launched from New Delhi by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. This cyclothon is part of the nationwide celebration of 150 years of “Vande Mataram,” which will run until the 22nd of next month.

Theme and National Significance

This year’s cyclothon carries the theme “Surakshit Tat, Samridh Bharat,” emphasizing the connection between secure coastlines and the prosperity of our nation. During the event, the Minister expressed that this initiative is all about celebrating patriotism and enhancing national awareness as we mark the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram.” The cyclothon aims to engage the public and promote unity and awareness among coastal communities.

Role of CISF in Coastal and Maritime Security

Mr. Rai commended the CISF for its vital role in maintaining internal security, especially during tough times. He pointed out that the CISF has been recognized as a security force under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, showcasing its expanding role in maritime security. The force is also instrumental in port-led development, protecting maritime trade, and bolstering coastal infrastructure throughout the country.

Route, Participation, and Outreach

Two CISF cycling teams will set off simultaneously from Bakhali in West Bengal on the eastern coast and Lakhpat Fort in Gujarat on the western coast. They will cover around 6,500 kilometers, ultimately reaching Cochin in Kerala. A total of 148 CISF personnel, including 65 women, are taking part, highlighting the importance of inclusivity and gender representation within the force.

Objectives Beyond Security Awareness

Through the cyclothon, the CISF aims to engage security stakeholders and place coastal communities at the centre of awareness efforts. The initiative also promotes fitness, discipline, and healthy lifestyles, particularly among youth, while fostering community participation and reinforcing the idea of shared responsibility for coastal security and national unity.
