Coldest day for Delhi in over 100 years

Delhi woke up to a bone-chilling weekend as the minimum temperature that the city recorded on stood at 2.4 degrees Celsius, making it coldest day of the season. Dense fog enveloped the city reducing visibility and affecting air traffic and vehicular movement in the streets. The mercury even plunged to below two degrees Celsius in some areas with the Lodhi Road Observatory recording a low of 1.7 degrees Celsius.

Hundreds of flights from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) had to be cancelled or were delayed as the coldest day in December in more than a hundred years, wrapped India’s capital in a thick blanket of fog. The dense fog also hit other transport with a delay in as many as 23 trains coming to Delhi. Poor visibility also hit road traffic with several reports of accidents.
