President Ram Nath Kovind confers Padma awards in Rashtrapati Bhawan

President Ram Nath Kovind presents the Padma Awards in the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar were among the attendees.

The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honors of India announced annually on the eve of Republic Day.

The Awards are given in 3categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri (distinguished service). 119 Padma Awards will be presented by President this year. The list comprises 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan, and 102 Padma Shri Awards. 29 of the awardees are women, 16 Posthumous awardees and 1 transgender awardee.

Australia is putting a rover on the Moon in 2024 to search for water

By Joshua Chou, Senior Lecturer, University of Technology Sydney, November 6 (The Conversation) Last month, the Australian Space Agency announced plans to send an Australian-made rover to the moon as early as 2026, under a deal with NASA. The rover will harvest lunar soil containing oxygen, which could eventually be used to support human life in space.

It will be the 1st rover with Australian-made components to reach the moon. The ten-kilogram rover, measuring 60x60x50cm, will be launched aboard the Hakuto lander built by ispace, a Japanese-based robotic lunar exploration company.

ESAF Bank join hands with Nabard for local economic development

Esaf Small Finance Bank has joined hands with Nabard for local economic development. K. Rajan, the State Revenue Minister inaugurated the state-level Local Sustainable Economic Development Training Program organized by the bank in this regard.

ESAF Small Finance Bank’s state-wide initiative on Local Sustainable Economic Development Training Program in collaboration with NABARD is a step towards building financial literacy at grass root levels.

Puneeth Rajkumar honoured posthumously with Basavashree Award 2021

Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar will be posthumously conferred the Basavashree award 2021 by the Bruhanmutt. Fondly called Appu, Puneeth, who was born in Chennai on March 17, 1975, was an actor, playback singer, television presenter, and producer. Puneeth, son of Matinee Idol Rajkumar, was a lead actor in 29 films and as a child and appeared in many films.

The award honours people for services to society in their respective fields by following the principles of Lord Basaveshwar. It is presented by Chitradurga Bruhanmutt since 1997. The award includes Rs 5 lakh cash and a memento.

PT Usha (2009), Malala Yousufzai (2014), P Sainath (2016), Dr. K Kasturirangan (2020) are some to win the award in recent times.

Swarna Jayanti Fellowships Award 2020-21 conferred on 17 scientist

Dept of Science & Technology (DST) has selected 17 scientists for the prestigious Swarnajayanti Fellowships 2020-21 award for their innovative research ideas and the potential of creating an impact on R&D.

Department of Justice launches ‘Tele-Law on Wheels’ Campaign

Joining the country-wide celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Department of Justice kicked off the week-long “Tele-Law on Wheels” campaign from 8th to 14th November 2021. As part of this campaign, a series of activities are being undertaken to empower people through pre-litigation advice for rightfully claiming their entitlements and for timely redressal of their difficulties.

Special Login week is also being organized for encouraging those in need to seek legal advice and consultation through tele-and video conferencing facilities.

Sankalp Gupta becomes 71st Indian Grandmaster

18-year-old Sankalp Gupta from Nagpur became India’s 71st Grandmaster after he completed the third and final norm at the GM Ask 3 round-robin event in Arandjelovac, Serbia. The Maharashtra player also touched the 2500 Elo rating mark during the tournament. To achieve the GM title, a player has to secure three GM norms and cross the live rating of 2,500 Elo points.

Meghalaya approves creation of new district named Eastern West Khasi Hills District

The Meghalaya Cabinet approved a proposal to upgrade the Mairang civil sub-division to a full-fledged district called Eastern West Khasi Hills district. Mairang is now a sub-division under the West Khasi Hills district.

The new district will be inaugurated on November 10, 2021, by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. This will increase the total number of districts in the state to 12.
