RBI keeps Repo Rate unchanged at 4.0 percent; GDP growth for 2022-23- 7.8 percent.

Reserve Bank of India conducted the 6th and the last Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting for 2021-22 between February 8-10, 2022. Reserve Bank of India has kept the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) unchanged at 4.0 percent. The central bank had last revised the policy rate on May 22, 2020, in an off-policy cycle to perk up demand by cutting the interest rate to a historic low.

Various rates are as under: 

  • Policy Repo Rate : 4.00%
  • Reverse Repo Rate : 3.35%
  • Marginal Standing Facility Rate : 4.25%
  • Bank Rate : 4.25%
  • CRR : 4.00%
  • SLR : 18.00%

The MPC decided to continue with the accommodative stance. RBI has projected the real GDP growth for 2022-23 at 7.8 per cent. For the current fiscal year, RBI projected real GDP growth of 9.2 per cent and expects that it will take the economy above the pre-pandemic level. For the current fiscal year, RBI retained its retail inflation projection at 5.3 per cent.

RBI reopens Voluntary Retention Route (VRR) with an investment limit of ₹2,50,000 crore

The Reserve Bank of India introduced the Voluntary Retention Route (VRR) for investments by Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) on March 01, 2019. An amount of ₹1,50,000 crore was offered for investment through VRR, in three tranches so far; of which around ₹1,49,995 crore have been availed as on February 10, 2022.

Now RBI has increased this investment limit in VRR from Rs. 1,50,000 crore to Rs. 2,50,000 crore. The increased investment limits shall be open for allotment from April 01, 2022.

Minimum retention period: 3 years

The investment limit available for fresh allotment shall accordingly be ₹1,04,800 crore.

Pradip Shah has been appointed as the Chairman of Pfizer India. He has replaced R A Shah as the chairman who resigned on February 3.

He is the ex-managing director and a founding member of Crisil. Prior to founding Crisil, he assisted in founding HDFC in 1977. He has also served as a consultant to USAID, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank.

Surat to get India’s 1st bullet train station

First glimpses of India’s first Bullet Train station in Surat are finally out. The Ministry of Railways on February 10, shared the graphical representation of Surat’s Bullet Train station to be constructed between Mumbai- Ahmedabad route.

National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) will be constructing this project that is scheduled to be completed by December 2024. The cost of the project is estimated to be more than ₹1 lakh crore of which ₹88,000 crores will be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed every year on 11 February to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls. The 7th International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly, taking place on 11 February 2022, aims to recognize the role of women and girls in science, not only as beneficiaries but also as agents of change, including in view of accelerating progress towards the achievement of SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

The Day is implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women in collaboration with institutions and civil society partners that aim to promote women and girls in science.

The 2022 theme of the Day is: “Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Water Unites Us”

Athlete-turned actor Praveen Kumar Sobti, who found fame as Bheem in BR Chopra’s iconic TV series Mahabharat, died at the age of 74 years on Monday night at his Delhi residence.
