14th edition of cyber security conference 'c0c0n' inaugurated14th edition of cyber security conference 'c0c0n' inaugurated

Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat will inaugurate the 14th edition of ‘c0c0n’, an annual Hacking and Cyber Security Briefing, which will be held virtually from November 10th to 13th, 2021.

The conference, which is being conducted by Kerala Police in association with two non-profit organizations, the Society for the Policing of Cyberspace (POLCYB) and the Information Security Research Association (ISRA).

Aim: To discuss the challenges faced by the digital world during the COVID period.

Global Drug Policy Index

The inaugural Global Drug Policy Index was released by the Harm Reduction Consortium, on November 7, 2021.

Five leading countries on humane and health-driven drug policies: Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, UK, Australia, and the Five lowest-ranked countries are Brazil, Uganda, Indonesia, Kenya, and Mexico.

The index is a data-driven global analysis of drug policies and their implementation which comes at a time when govt is reviewing the provisions of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic substances act 1985.

India’s rank

  • India is ranked 18 out of 30 countries with overall score of 46/100.
  • On “use of extreme sentencing and responses” criteria, India scored 63/100.
  • On health & harm reduction, it scored 49/100.
  • On proportionality of criminal justice response, it got 38/100.
  • On availability & access of internationally controlled substances for relief of pain & suffering, India scored 33 /100.
RBI launches its First Global Hackathon named ‘HARBINGER 2021’

The Reserve Bank of India has launched its first global hackathon named ‘HARBINGER 2021 – Innovation for Transformation’. The theme of HARBINGER 2021: Smarter Digital Payments.

The Hackathon invites participants to identify and develop solutions that have the potential to make digital payments accessible to the under-served, enhance the ease of payments and user experience while strengthening the security of digital payments, and promote customer protection. The winner of the hackathon will get Rs. 40 lakhs while Runner-up will get Rs. 20 lakh

Eligibility criteria: All entities, teams, or individuals (18 years and above) eligible to enter into contractual agreement; who possess Minimum Viable Product (MVP), and those who have an element of innovation.

Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar to be the next Chief of Naval Staff

Western Naval Command (WNC) chief Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar has been appointed as the next Chief of the Naval Staff with effect from 30th November 2021.

He is presently the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Naval Command. He succeeded Admiral Karambir Singh, who will retire from the service on 30th November 2021. He was commissioned on 1st Jan 1983 into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy. He served as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet.

Asif Ali, Laura Delany declared as ICC Players of the Month for October

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has declared Pakistan’s batsman Asif Ali as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October 2021. Meanwhile, Ireland all-rounder Laura Delany has secured the title of ICC Women’s Player of the Month for October 2021.

Asif Ali scored 52 runs without defeat across three matches for Pakistan in October at ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a strike rate of 273.68. Ireland captain Delany scored 189 runs at 63 and taking 4 wickets in a 3-1 ODI series win over Zimbabwe with a strike rate of 108.62.

Sandeep Lamichhane (Nepal), Heather Knight (England) were ICC players for September.

Indian Army signs MoU with BISAG-N for development of technologies

The Indian Army has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-Informatics (BISAG-N), Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Aim: Facilitate the exchange of knowledge and collaboration in the emerging technologies for the development of GIS and IT-based Enterprise Resource Planning Software, Training Content, Telecasting of Audio-Visual Content, Research and Knowledge Partnership, Technical Support and Upgradation for Resources Developed.

Koneru Ramakrishna Rao passes away

Former chancellor of GITAM Deemed-to-be University, former Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, and Padma Shri awardee Koneru Ramakrishna Rao died here after a brief illness. He was 89.

He was an internationally recognized psychologist and served as president of the US-based Parapsychological Association and the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology. He had written more than 20 books and 300 research publications. He served as Chancellor of GITAM (Deemed to Be University). He was awarded Padma Shri in 2011.

NITI Aayog announces five top aspirational districts in education sector

NITI Aayog has announced the top five aspirational districts in the education sector for September month.

Bhoopalpalli in Telangana tops the ranking, followed by Chatra and Sahibganj in Jharkhand, Nuapada in Odisha, and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. This is as per NITI Aayog’s delta rankings. CEO of NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India): Amitabh Kant.

Cabinet approves to observe November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today has approved the declaration of 15th November as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas dedicated to the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters so that coming generations could know about their sacrifices about the country. 15 November has been chosen as this date marks the birth anniversary of Sri Birsa Munda who is revered as Bhagwan (God) by tribal communities across the country.

The day will be celebrated every year from now on to recognize the efforts of the tribals for the preservation of cultural heritage and promotion of Indian values of valour, hospitality, and national pride.

India launches E-Amrit portal for Electric Vehicles at COP26

The Central government launched ‘E-Amrit’, a web portal on electric vehicles (EVs), at the ongoing COP26 Summit in United Kingdom’s Glasgow on November 10, 2021.

The web portal has been developed by NITI Aayog with support from UK government. E-Amrit is one-stop destination to provide all information regarding electric vehicles.

According to a statement issued by the NITI Aayog, E-Amrit is a one-stop destination for all information on electric vehicles–busting myths around the adoption of EVs, their purchase, investment opportunities, policies and subsidies, among other things to raise awareness about EVs and sensitise consumers on the benefits of switching to electric mobility.

National Education Day: 11 November

Every year since 2008, November 11 is celebrated as the National Education Day to mark the birth anniversary of India’s first education minister Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin.

The day was announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on 11 September 2008. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad served as education minister of independent India for over 10 years from 15 August 1947 to 2 February 1958.

India bags 5 medals at inaugural ISSF President’s Cup

India has bagged five medals including two Gold, two Silver, and one Bronze at the inaugural ISSF President’s Cup. The invitation-only tournament was held at the Wroclaw in Poland, featuring the top-12 shooters in each of the shotgun, pistol, and rifle categories. India’s Manu Bhaker bagged two gold medals.
