Himachal Govt constitutes 'Samanya Varg Aayog'

Himachal Pradesh govt announced setting up a Commission for upper castes, on the lines of Madhya Pradesh. The Commission, to be named as ‘Samanya Varg Aayog’, will be formalized through a legislative enactment in three months. 

A Scheduled Caste Commission is already in operation in Himachal Pradesh and is chaired by former Shimla MP Virendra Kashyap. The Commission is being formed considering the long-pending demand of the people belonging to the general category for a body to redress their grievances, Thakur said.

Saudi Arabia bans Tablighi Jamaat, calls it ‘gate of terror’

Saudi Arabia has banned the Tablighi Jamaat, terming it a “danger to society” and “one of the gates of terrorism”.

The country’s Minister of Islamic Affairs made an announcement on social media directing the mosques to warn people against associating with them. The government has also warned people against associating with the Tablighi Jamaat which has been banned in Saudi Arabia. Saudi government also asked mosques to inform people about the danger that Tablighi Jamaat pose to society.

ADB approves Rs 2,645-crore loan to improve urban services in India

Asian Development Bank said it has approved a Rs 2,644.85 crore (USD 350 million) loan for India to help improve its urban services.

The loan supports the policies established by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to accelerate universal coverage of piped water supply and improved sanitation. This is part of the recently launched national programme AMRUT 2.0 and to provide affordable housing to all, including poor, urban migrant and industrial workers, under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

NITI Aayog and Bharti Foundation announce the launch of ‘Convoke 2021-22’

NITI Aayog in partnership with Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises, launched Convoke 2021-22. Convoke is a National research Symposium that aims at addressing challenges in imparting education and strengthening its quality with a special focus on all teachers, educationists, heads of schools across India. Through Convoke they can now share their micro research papers. These research papers will be analyzed by a panel of Educationists. The shortlisted Research Papers will be presented during the ‘National Research Symposium’ scheduled in January 2022.

The event was chaired by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog and attended by Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, Dr. Prem Singh, Adviser (Education), NITI Aayog, Shri Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Co-Chairman, Bharti Foundation and Ms. Mamta Saikia, CEO, Bharti Foundation and also virtually attended by representatives of Ministry of Education, NIEPA, Officials of Education Departments/ SCERTs of all States/UTs. 

Through this platform:

  • School teachers/Principals of Government Schools and teachers of Bharti Foundation Network will be encouraged to use research-based solutions through a scientific approach and demonstrate their efforts at the grassroots level to improve learning outcomes.
  • The National Policy on Education (NEP) 2020 also recognizes and recognizes teachers and teachers as the center of the learning process. It recommends that teachers be recognized for new approaches to teaching that improve learning outcomes in their classrooms.
  • The NEP recommends developing platforms so that teachers can share ideas and best practices for wide dissemination and replication. For years, teachers have been coming up with innovative solutions to help students and even more during the lockdown.

Himachal Pradesh govt announced setting up a Commission for upper castes, on the lines of Madhya Pradesh. The Commission, to be named as ‘Samanya Varg Aayog’, will be formalized through a legislative enactment in three months’ time when the state assembly meets next in February-March 2021 for the budget session of the House. A Scheduled Caste Commission is already in operation in Himachal Pradesh and is chaired by former Shimla MP Virendra Kashyap.

As per the 2011 population census, Himachal Pradesh has a population of 68,56,509 of which 19.29 lakh, which is 25.22 %, are SCs, while the other 4 lakhs are STs, which is 5.71 % and other 9.03 lakh are OBCs, which is 13.52%.

India's Harnaaz Sandhu crowned Miss Universe 2021

India’s Harnaaz Sandhu has been crowned Miss Universe 2021 as she swiftly occupied the top spot on the trends list after search trends increased. Punjab-based Harnaaz Sandhu represented India at the 70th Miss Universe 2021, held in Eilat, Israel.

The 21-year-old from Punjab claimed the crown edging out Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira and South Africa’s Lalela Mswane. Ms Sandhu was presented the crown by Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico.

Previously, only two Indians have worn the crown – Sushmita Sen in 1994, and Lara Dutta in 2000.

India ends Asian Rowing Championship with a total of 6 medals

India won total of 6 medals, including two gold and 4 silver medals in the Asian Rowing Championship in Thailand. Senior rower Arvind Singh bagged a gold in the lightweight Men’s single sculls event while his compatriots won three silver medals. India bagged silver medals in Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls, Men’s Quadrapul Sculls and in Men’s Coxless Four. In Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls, India’s Ashish Phugat and Sukhjinder Singh won the silver. 

ISRO, Oppo India collaborate to ramp up messaging service in oceans

To strengthen the Research and Development (R&D) of NaVIC or the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) messaging service, the Indian Space Research Organisation has signed a pact with Oppo India. NavIC is a messaging service platform, which provides regional navigation services covering the entire country 

As per the Memorandum of Undertaking (MoU), both ISRO and Oppo India will exchange technical information of NavIC messaging services to build rapid, ready-to-use, end-to-end application-specific solutions. This will enable integrating NavIC messaging service with the mobile handset platform keeping in mind the need of Indian users.

RBI enforces 20-digit LEI for cross-border deals

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Make Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) Mandatory for cross-border transactions for capital or current account transactions of Rs 50 crore and beyond that, from 1st October of the following year. LEI is a 20-digit number used to uniquely identify parties to financial transactions worldwide to improve the quality and accuracy of financial data systems. The LEI numbers are maintained in a global LEI database available on the website of the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF).

The identifier norm has been introduced in a phased manner for participants in the over the counter (OTC) derivative, non-derivative markets, large corporate borrowers, and large value transactions in centralised payment systems. Starting October 1, 2022, banks will have to obtain the `LEI` number from the resident entities (non-individuals) undertaking any capital or current account transactions. For LEI holders, it would be mandatory to furnish the number in all transactions irrespective of the transaction size.

Mandiant appoints Balaji Rao to head India, SAARC markets

American cybersecurity firm Mandiant has announced the appointment of Balaji Rao as its new country manager for India and SAARC markets, responsible for revenue generation, strategic business development and operations. It is a Nasdaq-listed cyber security solutions company.

Mandiant knows more about threat actors than any other company in the security industry and responds to more than 1,000 cyber security breaches each year. An industry veteran with over 25 years’ experience Balaji will be spearheading the team to help organisations in India gain their cyber security advantage. 

PM Modi inaugurates Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the first phase of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham here, a project which is spread over five lakh square feet and connects the temple premises to the River Ganga besides providing several facilities to devotees.

Project is constructed at a cost of ₹339 crore and is done with a vision to create an easily accessible pathway connecting the temple to the banks of river Ganga. The earlier Kashi Vishwanath premises was limited to just 3000 square feet. Now 23 new buildings have been constructed that will provide diverse facilities to the pilgrims and devotees.

National Energy Conservation Day 2021

The National Energy Conservation Day is being celebrated every year on December 14 since 1991. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, spearheads the celebrations every year. This day is celebrated to raise awareness regarding the conservation of energy as it is the best way to have a greener and brighter future.

Ever since 2005, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency has been organizing National Level Painting Competitions on Energy Conservation for school children. This year, the theme for the competition is ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Energy Efficient India’ and ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Cleaner Planet’. 

History of the day:

Back in 2001, the Indian bureau of energy efficiency implemented the Indian energy conservation act which focused on formulating policies regarding energy conservation. Since then on every 14th December various discussions, conferences, and workshops are organized to raise awareness regarding energy conservation. These events are organized across the country.
