Sale of the 19th tranche of electoral bonds opens on January 01, 2022
The government has approved the issuance of the 19th tranche of electoral bonds for sale from January 1 to 10, 2022 in view of upcoming assembly elections for 5 states– Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Goa.
The 29 specified SBI branches are in cities such as Lucknow, Shimla, Dehradun Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Patna, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Srinagar, Gandhinagar, Bhopal, Raipur, and Mumbai.
What is an electoral bond: Electoral Bond is a financial instrument for making donations to political parties.
Denomination of electoral bond: The Electoral Bonds are issued in the denomination of Rs1000, Rs 10,000, Rs 1,00,000, Rs 10,00,000 and Rs 1,00,00,000. There is no upper limit for the purchase of the electoral bonds. An electoral bond will be valid for 15 days from the date of issue. The sale of the first batch of electoral bonds took place from March 1-10, 2018.
SEBI reconstitutes advisory committee on maket data; Head- S Sahoo
Sebi has restructured its advisory committee on market data that recommends policy measures pertaining to areas like securities market data access and privacy. The 20-member committee recommends policy measures pertaining to areas like securities market data access and privacy.
S Sahoo, former chairperson of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) and Professor at National Law University, Delhi is the new head of the panel. The 20-member committee was earlier headed by Madhabi Puri Buch, ex-whole time member of Sebi.
India chairs UNSCs Counter-Terrorism Committee for one year from January 2022
India has assumed the chairmanship of the United Nations Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee for one year, beginning from January 01, 2022. The committee stands for greater significance for India, as the country has been pitching pertinent measures to evict and fight terrorism on the global platform. The UNSC Committee on Counterterrorism will be chaired by India after 10 years, as India last chaired this committee in 2012.
In addition to this, India has also voted in favour of the UNSC resolution to renew the mandate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate.
France takes over EU Presidency for six months from January 2022
France takes over the presidency of the council of the European Union for six months, starting January 1, 2022, until June 30th 2022. This presidency comes at a key period for French President Emmanuel Macron who is expected to run for re-election in April. Should Macron lose the 2022 election, his successor will take over the rest of the term to chair the meetings.
This is the 13th time that France has taken over the rotating presidency. The motto of France as EU President is “recovery, strength, belonging.” France will work to place the continent’s digitization and climate protection at the forefront.
The presidency of EU rotates every six months among the member states of the 27-nation bloc. Upon the completion of six months presidency, France will be replaced by the Czech Republic.
China launches 5-year plan to become a hub of world robotics innovation
China has proposed a five-year strategy to help it achieve its goal of becoming a worldwide robotics innovation centre by 2025. It intends to achieve this by concentrating on improvements to essential components such as servomotors and control panels. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology revealed operating income from the country’s robotics industry is expected to grow by around 20% per year between 2021 and 2025, according to the five-year strategy. From 2016 to 2020, the sector expanded at an average growth rate of 15%. Last year, operating income surpassed 100 billion yuan ($15.69 billion) for the first time.
To achieve its goal by 2025 of becoming a worldwide robotics innovation Centre, China has proposed a strategy concentrating on improvements to essential components such as servo motors and control panels. As per the 2021 World Robot Report, South Korea, Singapore, and Japan were the top three most automated countries in Asia-Pacific.
DRDO Celebrates 64th Foundation Day on 1st January 2022
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has observed the 64th Foundation Day of its establishment on January 01, 2022. DRDO was established in 1958 with just 10 laboratories to enhance the research work in the Defence sector. At that time, it was tasked with designing and developing cutting edge defence technologies for the Indian Armed Forces.
In 63 years, DRDO has transformed the landscape of defence research and development in India. DRDO also played a significant role in fighting against COVID-19 pandemic. It set up around 850 oxygen plants and Covid hospitals with the help from PM CARES Fund. It also developed a medicine named 2DG, to fight covid-19. Synergy with the defence industry with respect to development and production has reached to new heights in India, with more than 175 transfers of technologies happened in 2021 alone.
As of now, DRDO is working in multiple cutting edge military technology areas, which include aeronautics, armaments, combat vehicles, electronics, instrumentation, engineering systems, missiles, materials, naval systems, advanced computing, simulation, cyber, life sciences and other technologies for defence.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launches 100 days reading campaign ‘Padhe Bharat’
The Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has launched ‘Padhe Bharat’. The campaign has been organised from January 01, 2022 to April 10, 2022. The launch of 100 Days Reading Campaign is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which emphasises on promotion of joyful reading culture for children by ensuring availability of age appropriate reading books for children in local/mother tongue/regional/tribal Language.
The International Mother Tongue Day (21 February ) has also been integrated with this campaign to encourage children to read in their mother tongue/local language.
An activity named Kahani Padho Apni Bhasa Main (Reading story in own language) will be organised on this day across the country to promote local language and culture of our society.

PM Modi lays foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in UP’s Meerut district
Prime Minister Narendra Modi layed the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on January 02, 2022. While speaking on the occasion, PM Modi said Meerut and its surrounding region has contributed significantly in giving a new direction to independent India.
This will be the first sports university in Uttar Pradesh. The university are being established at Salawa and Kaili villages of Sardhana town in Meerut. The estimated cost of setting up the University is about Rs.700 crore.
Bollywood film producer Vijay Galani passes away in London
Hindi film producer Vijay Galani passed away in London due to organ failure. He was suffering from blood cancer and was seeking treatment in London. He was in his late 50s. Vijay Galani was suffering from blood cancer and was in London for seeking treatment. He is known for producing films like Ajnabee, Achanak, Veer and Suryavanshi (1992).
