Union Minister of Development of North East Region, Tourism and Culture Sri G. Kishan Reddy addressed the ‘North East MSME Conclave: Building Competitiveness for Leveraging Opportunities’, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).

The main objective of this conclave was to empower the MSME sector in the North East Region, which has immense potential for the development in the North East and support overall economic growth of the country.

India to participate in multi-nation ‘Exercise Cobra Warrior 22’ in United Kingdom in March 2022

Indian Air Force will participate in a multi-nation air exercise Ex Cobra Warrior 22 at Waddington in United Kingdom from 6th to 27th of next month. Five IAF Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas will participate in the exercise from the country to demonstrate its maneuverability and operational capability.

Exercise Cobra Warrior is one of the largest annual exercise by the Royal Air Force (RAF). India will be participating in the exercise for the first time. Other countries participating are United Kingdom, Sweden, Saudi Arabia and Bulgaria.

PM Modi virtually inaugurates ‘Kisan Drone Yatra’ at Manesar and flags off 100 Kisan Drones 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the ‘Kisan Drone Yatra’ at Manesar, in Haryana, on February 19, 2022, and addressed a group of farmers. PM Modi expressed confidence that India’s rising capability in the drone sector will give the world a new leadership as he flagged off 100 ‘kisan drones’ in different parts of the country for spraying pesticides and other farm materials, according to officials who described it as a “very novel and exciting initiative” for farmers.

These Kisan drones will be used for crop assessment, digitization of land records, spraying of pesticides and other nutrients in farms across India. The initiative will support the farmers and further boost the agricultural sector and drone sector of the country.

These drones have been manufactured by Chennai-based Garuda Aerospace, which has set a target of manufacturing 1 lakh Made-in-India drones in the next 2 years. This will generate fresh employment and new opportunities for the youth,” he said.

Indian Professor Neena Gupta wins 2021 Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians

The Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians was awarded to Professor Neena Gupta, a mathematician of the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, in a virtual ceremony on 22nd February 2022. She received the award for the year 2021 for her outstanding work in affine algebraic geometry and commutative algebra. Prof Gupta is the fourth Indian and second female winner of the award from the country.

Executive Director of the Indian Rubber Board, K.N. Raghavan has been elected the new Chairman of the International Rubber Study Group (IRSG). He will officiate as Chairman of the group for the next two years. He will preside over the meeting of the heads of delegation scheduled for March 31 at Singapore.

Raghavan is currently the Executive Director of Indian Rubber Board and Head of the Indian delegation to IRSG. India has taken over the chair of the IRSG from Cote d’Ivoire. IRSG is an intergovernmental organisation of natural rubber (NR) and synthetic rubber (SR) producing and consuming countries.

India Ratings lowers FY22 GDP growth to 8.6 percent from 9.2 percent

India Ratings & Research (India Ratings) has revised downwards the GDP growth forecast of the country for 2021-22 (FY22) to 8.6 percent. Earlier this was projected at 9.2 percent.

The National Statistical Organisation (NSO), which has forecast 9.2 per cent real GDP growth for the year, will release the second advance estimate of national income.

The Centre announced that the PM CARES for Children Scheme has been extended till February 28, 2022. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development said that all eligible children can be registered for the scheme till the extended date to avail its benefits. Earlier the scheme was valid till December 31, 2021.

PM Cares for Children Scheme was launched by Prime Minister Modi on May 29, 2021 to support children who have lost both their parents due to COVID 19 pandemic.

Renowned Malayalam actress KPAC Lalitha passes away at 74

Renowned Malayalam film and stage actor KPAC Lalitha died at the age of 74 at a hospital in Kerala’s Kochi.

In her acting career spanning five decades, Lalitha starred in over 550 films, comprising both Malayalam and Tamil. She won two National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress along with four Kerala State Film Awards. She got the national award for the character in ‘Amaram’ in 1999 and for ‘Shantham’ in 2000. She also was the Chairperson of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy for five years.
