Central Government notifies Indian Telegraph Right of Way (Amendment) Rules, 2021

The Central Government has notified the Indian Telegraph Right of Way (Amendment) Rules, 2021 on 21st October 2021 to incorporate the provisions related to nominal one-time compensation and uniform procedure for establishment of Overground Telegraph Line in the Indian Telegraph Right of Way Rules, 2016. The new rules have been introduced to ease the Right of Way (RoW) related permission and procedures for the establishment and augmentation of Digital Communications Infrastructure across the country.

Amendments notified are as follows:

  • The one-time compensation for establishment of overground telegraph line has been fixed at maximum Rs 1000 per kilometre. 
  • No fee will be charged other than Administrative fee and Restoration charges for establishing, maintaining, working, repairing, transferring or shifting the underground and overground telegraph infrastructure.
  • Besides, Documentation for Right of Way (RoW) application for overground telegraph line has also been simplified.
Indian Navy launches Offshore Sailing Regatta from Kochi to Goa

The Indian Navy will organise an offshore sailing regatta from Kochi to Goa, as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the 75th year of Indian Independence. Six Indian Naval Sailing Vessels Mhadei, Tarini, Bulbul, Neelkanth, Kadalpura, and Hariyal will participate in the event organised by the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA).

The event organised under the aegis of the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA) will see the participation of six Indian naval sailing vessels (INSVs), comprising of four 40 footers ad two 56 footers.

The six INSVs include:

  • 56 footer – Mhadei and Tarini
  • 40 footer – Bulbul, Neelkhanth, Kadalpura and Hariyal

The race will begin on October 24, 2021, for a tentative duration of five days. The vessels will cover a total distance of 360 nautical miles between the starting points at the naval base in Kochi to Goa.

“Writing for My Life” anthology of Ruskin Bond released

A new anthology of Ruskin Bond named “Writing for My Life: The Very Best of Ruskin”, has been released and it is having the most exemplary stories, essays, poems, and memories by celebrated award-winning author Ruskin Bond.

The book was published by Penguin Random House India (PRHI). Prior to this, his another anthology, “The Best of Ruskin Bond” was released before the new one.

What is an anthology?

 An anthology is a collection of literary works chosen by the compiler; it may be a collection of plays, poems, short stories, songs or excerpts by different authors.

This anthology has been released 25 years after the first anthology of Bond titled, “The Best of Ruskin Bond”. The selections for this anthology have been made by Bond himself and his editor Premanka Goswami. Ruskin Bond is an Indian author of British descent. His first novel is The Room on the Roof.

China launches satellite ‘Shijian-21’

China successfully launched a new satellite named Shijian-21 on October 24, 2021. The satellite will be used to test and verify space debris mitigation technologies.

It was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on a Long March-3B carrier rocket. The satellite, named Shijian-21, was launched by a Long March-3B carrier rocket and it entered the planned orbit successfully.

South Korea flight tests first homegrown space rocket “Nuri”

South Korea recently launched its first indigenously developed rocket, known as “Korean Satellite Launch Vehicle II” or “Nuri”.

The Korean Satellite Launch Vehicle II, known as Nuri, took off from Goheung, about 500km (310 miles) south of Seoul.

Nuri cost South Korea an estimated 2 trillion won (£1.23bn or $1.6bn) to develop. Nuri rocket is 47.2 meters long and weighs 200 tones. The three-stage rocket is fitted with six liquid-fuelled engines.

UIDAI announces first-ever “Aadhaar Hackathon 2021”

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will be hosting a Hackathon titled “Aadhaar Hackathon 2021” targeting the young innovators from October 28 to 31, 2021 – who are still at various Engineering institutes and eager to step into the real world. “The Hackathon would continue till October 31.”

The hackathon consists of two broad themes:

  1. Enrollment and Update (innovative solutions to cover challenges being faced by the common man while updating their address)
  2. Identity and Authentication (innovative solutions to prove Identity without sharing the Aadhaar number and other demographic information)

Oscars 2022: Tamil drama Koozhangal is India's official entry

Tamil drama Koozhangal (Pebbles), directed by filmmaker Vinothraj PS, has been selected as India’s official entry for the 94th Academy Awards (Oscars 2022). The movie follows an alcoholic abusive husband who, after his long-suffering wife runs off, sets out with his young son to find her and bring her back.

The film has been directed by filmmaker Vinothraj PS and produced by Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara. The 94th Academy Awards are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, on March 27, 2022.

Adidas ropes in Deepika Padukone as Global brand ambassador

Adidas said it has roped in Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone to endorse the German sportswear brand globally for women’s sports.

Deepika will represent Adidas women globally. She joins the elite list of female brand ambassadors of Adidas in India, including Mirabai Chanu; boxers Lovlina Borgohain, Nikhat Zareen, and Simranjeet Kaur; sprinter Hima Das, and squash player Dipika Pallikal.

Election Commission of India launches Garuda App for Digital Mapping of Polling Booths

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the Garuda app for the digital mapping of all polling stations. The Garuda app will contain data such as latitude and longitude of the polling stations and will ensure faster, smarter, transparent, and timely completion of election work.

Through the Garuda app, Booth Level Officers (BLO) will upload photos and location information of the polling stations, along with data like latitude and longitude of the centre, from their registered mobile numbers. The app will also help in reducing the paperwork.

Nagaland to host 56th National Cross Country Championship in 2022

Nagaland will host the 56th cross country championship on January 15, 2022, Abu Metha, Associate vice president of the Athletic Federation of India (AFI), informed. The 56th National Cross Country Championships will be the first-ever national athletics event hosted by Nagaland.

Top athletes from the eight South Asian countries will take part in the day-long international sports event. The championship will involve running on different types of terrain including sprint over dirt, jog downhill and mount uphill.
