Indian Navy successfully test fires extended range BrahMos land attack missile

The Indian Navy successfully test-fired the long range version of the BrahMos cruise missile on March 05, 2022 from the stealth destroyer INS Chennai.

According to the Navy officials, conducted in the Arabian Sea under Western Naval Command, the missile hit its intended target with a pinpoint accuracy after traversing an extended range trajectory and performing some complex manoeuvres during the demonstration.

India’s first indigenous Flying Trainer HANSA-NG designed and developed by CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore under the aegis of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, has successfully completed the sea level trials at Puducherry from Feb 19 to Mar 5.

The aircraft has been designed and developed by CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), under the aegis of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). HANSA-NG was flown from Bengaluru to Puducherry on February 19, covering a distance of 140 nautical miles in 1.5 hours at a cruising speed of 155 km/hr.

State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed former Ujjivan Small Finance Bank CEO Nitin Chugh as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) to drive digital banking operations. He has been appointed to SBI for an initial term of three years, sources said.

Nitin Chugh is a former Ujjivan Small Finance Bank CEO. He has also served as the Group Head of Digital Banking at HDFC Bank.

Indian Railways to bring 2,000 km of network under ‘KAVACH’ in 2022-23 for safety and capacity augmentation

‘Kavach’, the indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, will be deployed across the entire rail network beginning with 2,000 km in the 2022-23 fiscal and will be rolled out in 4,000 to 5,000 km every subsequent year, bringing around 34,000 Kms of network under Kavach, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday.

KAVACH is a state of the art electronic system meant to provide protection by preventing trains to pass the signal at Danger (Red) and avoid collision. This will boost safety in train operation.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, are jointly conducting OCEANS 2022 Conference and Exposition, the bi-annual event for global marine researchers, technologists and engineers, students, and policymakers, from Feb 21-24 2022 in hybrid mode in Chennai.

The bi-annual conference was held for the first time in India. The theme of the event was “inspire-innovate-sustain”. It was co-sponsored by the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Ocean Engineering Society (IEEE OES) and Marine Technology Society (MTS). The conference provided a platform for global maritime professionals to learn, innovate, and lead in the protection and utilisation of the world’s largest natural resource, which is ‘oceans’.

Parshottam Rupala inaugurates ‘Sagar Parikrama’ initiative from Gujarat – Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala will inaugurate the ‘Sagar Parikrama’. Sagar Parikrama’ was organised by the Union Ministry for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava’.

The programme will be held in phased manner in states that have a coastline. To begin with, Gujarat will mark the first state under this initiative. The Department of Fisheries has jointly organised the programme with National Fisheries Development Board along with Gujarat Government’s Department of Fisheries, Indian Coast Guard, Fishery Survey of India, Gujarat Maritime Board and fishermen representatives.

The ‘Sagar Parikrama’ will focus on the sustainable balance between the utilization of marine fisheries resources for food security of nation and livelihoods of coastal fisher communities and protection of marine ecosystems. The Union Minister for Fisheries, Shri Parshottam Rupala inaugurated the ‘Sagar Parikrama’ on March 05, 2022 from Gujarat.  The voyage was flagged off from Mandvi at Shyamiji Krishna Varma Memorial, Gujarat on March 5 and will conclude on March 6 at Porbandar via Okha in Devbhoomi Dwarka. Other districts of Gujarat and other State/UTs will be covered in subsequent phases.

Prime Minister inaugurates Rs 11,400 Crore Pune Metro Rail Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the 12km stretch of the Pune Metro Rail project in the city. The project is being built at a cost of more than Rs 11,400 crore. It has a total length of 33.2 km and 30 stations. Modi also unveiled the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the premises of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Pune Metro is the first metro project in the country to have Aluminum body coaches, indigenously manufactured under Make in India policy of GoI.
