DAJA 2025: India launches largest-ever tribal empowerment campaign

The Government of India has launched the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (DAJA), the largest campaign for empowering tribal communities in independent India. It is running from 15 June to 15 July 2025, the month-long campaign is reaching over 5.5 crore tribal citizens directly over a period of 31 States and Union Territories, over 550 districts, and over 1 lakh tribal villages and PVTG habitation. This huge campaign corresponds to the vision of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, with the baton of inclusive governance being carried forward by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

The Spirit Behind DAJA: Honoring Birsa Munda

The Campaign invokes the spirit of heritage behind the name of Bhagwan Birsa Munda (Dharti Aaba), who is a tribal icon who is being commemorated by the campaign, which is articulated around the theme of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, representing the rich heritage-history-resilience and the True-identity of tribal communities with the spirit of fulfilling a long needed role of placing Tribals into India’s development working altogether with other communities in the process.
