FIFA lifted ban with immediate effect on All India Football Federation

World football governing body FIFA has lifted the ban on All India Football Federation (AIFF). The decision was taken after FIFA received confirmation that mandate of the committee of administrators set up to assume the powers of AIFF Executive Committee had been terminated, FIFA said. FIFA added Under-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 can now be held in India as planned.

FIFA lifted ban on All India Football Federation: Highlights

FIFA declared, “On August 25, the Council’s Bureau resolved to immediately lift the All India Football Federation (AIFF)’s suspension. As a result, India can host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, which is slated to take place from October 11–30, 2022.”

The entire dispute was set off when Praful Patel, a former president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), decided not to hold elections even after his term as president had ended. In the end, the Indian Supreme Court stepped in and appointed a committee to draft a new constitution. The Central government earlier filed a request in the Supreme Court to end the term of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), as required by the world football governing body, in order to maintain the hosting rights of the Under-17 women’s world cup.
