Google Now Lets Users Change Primary Gmail Address

Google rolls out new Gmail feature allowing users to change their primary @gmail.com address.
No need for a new Google account. Emails, Photos, Drive files, chats, subscriptions, and payment details remain intact.
Old email ID becomes an alias, ensuring no missed mails. Enables a more professional or updated email identity without data migration.
Feature is in gradual rollout and may not be available to all users immediately.

About New Gmail Feature

Google account holders can now replace their existing @gmail.com address with a new Gmail ID while keeping the same account. This means,

  • No need to create a new Google account
  • No loss of emails, photos, messages, or files
  • Continued access to all Google services

The old Gmail address will function as an alias, ensuring users do not miss emails sent to the previous address.

Important Things to Know

  • Rollout: The feature is being released gradually, so it may not appear for all users immediately.
  • Data Stays: Your data (Docs, Photos, etc.) and old emails aren’t lost; the old address becomes an alias.
  • Limits: You can typically change your primary address only once every 12 months and a maximum of three times total.
  • Syncing: It might take 24-48 hours for the change to sync across all Google services.
