His appointment will come into effect from 9th Nov, 2022 and continue till 10 November 2024. He will replace CJI, Uday Umesh Lalit. He was appointed as the Judge of SC on 13th May 2016. Prior to this, he served as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
He is the son of the longest serving CJI, YV Chandrachud served as Chief Justice of India from 1978 to 1985.
