Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) is a Category 1 Mini Ratna Company and one of India’s leading defence shipyards. Established as a Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) in 1960, GRSE has a long history as India another supplier for the shipbuilding industry. In 1961, GRSE built and delivered the first indigenous warship INS Ajay to the Indian Navy, setting a precedent and momentum for GRSE to become a household name in shipbuilding across India and globally.

The Launch
Shri G Surya Prakash, Assistant Manager (Finance) & the youngest officer of GRSE, had the honour of launching the GAINS 2023 initiative in Kolkata, with Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT & Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in attendance to show his support.
Focus Areas of GAINS 2023 Challenge
The GAINS 2023 Challenge emphasizes innovation and new capabilities in the area of shipbuilding. The emergence of Artificial Intelligence, Renewable/Green Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Efficiency Enhancement are the fundamental focus areas for the challenge. With these focus areas, GRSE is driving sustainable and cutting edge shipbuilding efforts.
Stages of the GAINS 2023 Challenge
The GAINS 2023 Challenge is a two-part process that encourages the generation of ideas and the consideration of the best ideas. The first part of the challenge is to have participants submit some short illustrated and written submissions as well as rough order of costs and a justification of professional backgrounds.
