India Flags Off First Export of Rose-Scented Litchi from Pathankot to Qatar

In a significant development for India’s horticultural exports, the first-ever shipment of rose-scented litchi from Pathankot, Punjab, was exported to Doha, Qatar, showcasing a tremendous achievement for Indian agriculture. At the hands of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the Punjab Horticulture Department, this development acts as a testament to the Indian government’s efforts in enhancing the fresh fruits market globally. This shipment of rose-scented litchi also represents the selling of a second half-tonne consignment to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and promises to open new opportunities for Indian litchi in the Gulf region.

India’s maiden export of rose-scented litchi is crucial at this time as it highlights India’s emerging strengths in premium horticulture exports, particularly with a projected 5.67% growth in fruit/vegetable exports in FY 2024–25. The export of rose-scented litchi exemplifies the balance between progressive farming, government providing support services for agriculture, logistics including cold-chain modalities, and food innovation, which allow farmers to augment agri-trade and expand their opportunities globally.
