India Semiconductor Mission

In Bengaluru, the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology has officially opened the first-ever Semicon India 2022 Conference under the India Semiconductor Mission in Bengaluru.
Semicon India – 2022 has been organized to take forward the vision of the Prime Minister to make India a leader in the electronics manufacturing, semiconductor design, manufacturing & innovation.
Theme of the Conference: Catalyzing India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem.
What are Semiconductors?
A semiconductor is a material with electrical conductivity between that of a conductor and an insulator
What is the India Semiconductor Mission?
Launched in 2021, the ISM comes with a significant financial commitment of Rs76,000 crore, courtesy of the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY). This initiative is a crucial element of a larger plan to foster a sustainable semiconductor and display ecosystem in the nation. The program aims to provide financial assistance to businesses that are investing in semiconductor and display manufacturing and design. With a focus on being guided by leading global experts in the Semiconductor and Display industry, ISM will function as the main agency to ensure the efficient and seamless execution of these initiatives.
It provides fiscal support to eligible applicants for setting up of Semiconductor Fabs which is aimed at attracting large investments for setting up semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities in the country.
Scheme for setting up of Display Fabs in India:
The program provides financial support to eligible candidates who want to set up Display Fabs. It’s designed to attract major investments for the development of TFT LCD and AMOLED display fabrication plants within the nation.
Scheme for setting up of Compound Semiconductors / Silicon Photonics / Sensors Fab and Semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) / OSAT facilities in India:
- The Scheme provides a fiscal support of 30% of the Capital Expenditure to the eligible applicants for setting up of Compound Semiconductors / Silicon Photonics (SiPh) / Sensors (including MEMS) Fab and Semiconductor ATMP / OSAT(Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facilities in India.
Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme:
This initiative offers financial incentives and infrastructure design support throughout the different phases of developing and deploying semiconductor designs, such as Integrated Circuits (ICs), Chipsets, System on Chips (SoCs), Systems & IP Cores, and other semiconductor-related designs.
