India Unveils Plans for E-Hansa

In a significant step towards green aviation and indigenous technological innovation, India has launched the development of the Electric Hansa (E-HANSA) — a next-generation, two-seater electric trainer aircraft.
This initiative was revealed by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, during a high-level review meeting with top science department officials.

What is E-Hansa?

TheE-HANSAaircraft, part of the broaderHANSA-3 Next Generation (NG)program, is beingindigenously developed by the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Bengaluru — a CSIR institute. The aircraft is designed to serve as acost-effective alternativeto imported trainer planes, with anestimated cost of Rs 2 crore, nearlyhalf the costof foreign counterparts.

The E-HANSA aligns withIndia’s green aviation vision, seeking to reduce carbon emissions in aviation and transition towardsclean energyusage in aircraft systems. It is also positioned to revolutionizepilot training infrastructureby offeringaffordable and sustainable training platforms.
