The Indian Army has announced 2026 as the “Year of Networking & Data Centricity.” The initiative focuses on expanding secure connectivity, improving real-time information sharing, and strengthening data-driven decision-making across formations.
By integrating networks, sensors, communication systems, and battlefield management platforms, the Army aims to enhance combat effectiveness, resilience, and agility — building a future-ready force capable of faster, coordinated responses.
Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi, in his New Year message, said the force is undergoing a “decade of transformation” anchored on jointness, self-reliance, and innovation. He emphasised that the effective use of indigenous technologies, new operational ideas, and continuous reforms is strengthening India’s military power. Networking and data-centricity, he noted, are providing fresh momentum to this transformation process.
Continuity with Previous Themes
The 2026 declaration builds directly upon earlier reform milestones:
- 2023: Year of Transformation.
- 2024–2025: Year of Technology Absorption, which focused on acquiring and familiarising troops with disruptive technologies.
- 2026–2027: A two-year roadmap to institutionalise these technologies into operational frameworks.
The theme was also a central highlight of the 78th Army Day celebrations on 15 January 2026, which featured the debut of the Bhairav Battalion, a unit specialised in drone-enabled multi-domain operations.
