Indian football legend Tulsidas Balaram passes away at 86: One of the best players in the country and a part of the golden age of Indian football (1951–1962), Tulsidas Balaram passed dead. He was 86. He played in two Olympics in 1956 and 1960 and reached the pinnacle of Asian football when India, under the guidance of legendary coach Syed Abdul Rahim, won the Asian Games gold in Jakarta, beating South Korea 2-1 in 1962. Balaram scored 131 goals, including 14 for India, across seven seasons.

Balaram earned a name for himself playing football for the East Bengal of Kolkata, where he also served as team captain in 1961–1962. He was one of the best players of the golden age of Indian football of the 1950s and 1960s. His playing position was as a center forward or as a left winger. In 1962, he received Arjuna Award from the Government of India. He received the “Banga Vibhushan” honour from the West Bengal government in 2013.
