List of National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in Assam

Assam is a biodiversity hotspot with beauty to match, featuring several national parks and wildlife sanctuaries that preserve flora and fauna. There are seven national parks in the state, including the renowned Kaziranga National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is probably the best-known park with a variety of one-horned rhinoceroses. It is also home to Manas National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Nameri National Park, Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, Orang National Park, Raimona National Park and Dehing Patkai National Park. Apart from national parks, there are numerous wildlife sanctuaries, including Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, which has a one of the densest populations of rhinos, Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary, Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary, Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary, Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, which is home to only Gibbon species in India. These Ecological and Wildlife areas are essential for the preservation of Assam’s unique and diverse ecosystem.
National Parks of Assam:
- Kaziranga National Park: Golaghat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, and Karbi Anglong districts.
- Manas National Park: Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and potentially Barpeta and Bongaigaon districts (straddling the Assam-Bhutan border).
- Nameri National Park: Sonitpur district, bordering Arunachal Pradesh.
- Dibru-Saikhowa National Park: Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.
- Orang National Park (Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park): Udalguri and Sonitpur districts, on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River.
- Raimona National Park: Kokrajhar district (Bodoland Territorial Region – BTR), bordering Bhutan.
- Dehing Patkai National Park: Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts, near the Dehing River and Patkai Hills.
Wildlife Sanctuaries of Assam:
- Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary: Karbi Anglong district.
- Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary: Nagaon district, on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River.
- Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary: Udalguri and Baksa districts, bordering Bhutan.
- Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary: Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts, in western Assam.
- Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary: Sonitpur district, on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River.
- Panidihing Bird Sanctuary: Sivasagar district, on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River.
- Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary: Jorhat district.
- Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary: Morigaon district, close to Guwahati.
- Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary: Sonitpur district, at the foothills of the Himalayas.
- Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary: Tinsukia district.
- East Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary: Karbi Anglong district.
- Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary: Karbi Anglong district, contiguous to Garampani WLS.
- Marat Longri Wildlife Sanctuary: Karbi Anglong district.
- Nambor-Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary: Golaghat district.
- Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary: Kamrup Metropolitan district (eastern fringe of Guwahati city).
- Borail Wildlife Sanctuary: Cachar and Dima Hasao districts (Barail Range).
- Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary: Kamrup Metropolitan district (western boundary of Guwahati city).
- Bordoibam Bilmukh Bird Wildlife Sanctuary (Proposed): Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts.
- North Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary (Proposed): Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council, south of Kaziranga National Park.
- Kanchanjuri Wildlife Sanctuary: Karbi Anglong district.
- Pomra Wildlife Sanctuary: Barpeta district, near the Brahmaputra River.
Dihing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary: The Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary located in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts of Assam, India.
