The Kolkata Metro is the first underground railway system in India, which began its operations on 24 October 1984, between the Esplanade and Bhowanipore (now Netaji Bhavan) stations. The Kolkata Metro currently operates a 27.22 km long north-south line and a 7.205 km long east-west line, covering a total of 30 stations.
