
About Model Solar Village:
- It envisages to create one Model Solar Village in each district of India.
- Aim: To promote solar energy adoption and make village communities self reliant in meeting their energy needs.
- Funding: ₹800 crore overall financial outlay has been allocated for this component with ₹1 crore per selected Model Solar Village.
- Criteria:
o For a village to be considered under the competition mode, it must be a revenue village with resident population size greater than 5,000 (or 2,000 for special category states).
o The selection procedure follows a competition mode where eligibility for the ranked villages requires overall distributed renewable energy (RE) capacity installed 6 months after the potential candidate declaration by District Level Committee (DLC). - The village in every district with the overall highest RE capacity will be awarded a ₹1 crore central financial assistance grant.
- Implementation: The implementation of this scheme will be done by State/UT Renewable Energy Development Agency and under supervision of District Level Committee (DLC).
Key facts about the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana - Under the scheme, the central government will provide ₹75,000 crores worth 300 units of free electricity per month to its beneficiaries.
- Target: It aims at lighting up 1 crore households.
Under the scheme, Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats would be incentivised to promote installation of the rooftop solar system in their jurisdictions.
