India observes“National Voters’ Day”every year onJanuary 25to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process.
The main objective behind the celebration is to encourage, facilitate, and maximise enrolment, especially for new voters. The day has been celebrated since 2011 across the country to mark the foundation of the Election Commission of India, i.e. 25th January 1950. The day also marks commemoration of theFoundation day of Election Commission of India (ECI), which was established on 25th January 1950.
The theme of NVD 2022 is,‘Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative’.
