Rise Through Party Ranks
Saini, the sittingMember of ParliamentfromKurukshetra, has been associated with the BJP since1996. He has held various organizational roles within the party and has steadily progressed through significant positions. In2014, Saini was elected as anMLAfrom the Narayangarh constituency, and in2016, he was appointed as a minister in the Haryana government.
Electoral Success
In the2019 Lok Sabha elections, Saini secured a resounding victory from the Kurukshetra constituency, defeating his closest rival from theIndian National Congressby a substantial margin. His electoral success and support base within the OBC community are considered crucial factors in his appointment as the new Chief Minister.
Caste Considerations and Khattar’s Confidante
Saini’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to consolidate its support among the OBC community, which constitutes a significant voter base in the state.
