
PM-PRANAM is a Central Sector Scheme in India and it means PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness Generation, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth.
Key objective of the scheme
- Reduce chemical fertilizers: The main objective of the PM-PRANAM Scheme is to reduce chemical fertilizers consumption, as this will mitigate soil degradation and environmental impacts.
- Alternative Fertilizers: The scheme looks to promote alternative fertilizers in states and union territories, such as bio-fertilizers and organic fertilizers.
- Incentivise states: States and UTs will get funding for 50% of the subsidy saved by the central government when reducing the use of chemical fertilizers.
- Sustainable agriculture: The PM-PRANAM Scheme will promote sustainable agricultural practices that are environmentally robust and preserve soil quality.
- Increase soil health awareness: Generating awareness regarding soil health for farmers and stakeholders regarding the importance of combining fertilizer applications.
