Sagar Samriddhi

What is Sagar Samridhi?
This system has been developed by the National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC), which is the tech branch of MoPSW. It builds on the previous Draft & Loading Monitor (DLM) system, aiming to boost productivity, improve contract management, and encourage the effective reuse of dredged materials. Plus, it aligns perfectly with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India) and Make in India, helping to strengthen the country’s technological prowess.
Capabilities
- Real time dredging progress report
- Daily and monthly progress Visualization
- Dredger performance and downtime monitoring
- Easy location track data with snapshot of loading, unloading and idle time
Significance:
- Utilizing advanced technology to reduce human error improves the project abstraction implementation, reduces the cost of dredging, aids in the sustenance of the environment, and increases transparency along with operational efficiency.
- For Maintenance Dredging, Ports and Major Water ways carry out annually an estimate of 100 million Cubic Metres. Hence Ports and Inland Water Ways Authority of India spends around 1000 Crores every year.
- Usage of “Sagar Samriddhi,” as per Addendum suggestions will increase operational transparency while strategically lowering dredging costs.
- This also fosters the development of new deep draft ports while enabling refined planning, lowered overall expenses, and streamlined operational ports.
Are there any Guidelines Related to Dredging in India?
- In 2021, the MoPSW released “Dredging Guidelines for Major Ports,” which provided the Major Ports with a framework for planning and preparation, technical investigations, dredged material management, dredging cost estimation, and other procedures to help them formulate dredging projects that would be completed on schedule.
- The Ministry updated the Dredging Guidelines for Major Ports in March 2023, adding a clause in the bidding documents that uses the “Waste to Wealth” concept to help lower dredging costs.
- It suggests various beneficial ways to use the dredged material, such as in construction projects and for environmental improvement like beach nourishment.
