
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme of Government of India is the flagship programme for achievement of Universalization of Elementary Education (UEE) in a time bound manner, as mandated by 86th amendment to the Constitution of India declaring free and compulsory Education to the Children of the 6-14 years age group would be a Fundamental Right. SSA programme is being implemented in partnership with State Governments to cover the entire country and cater the need of 192 million children in 1.1 million habitations.
SSA programme seeks to open new schools in those habitations that have no schooling facilities. The SSA programme seeks to improve existing school infrastructure through provision of additional class rooms, toilets, drinking water, maintenance grant and school improvement grants.
SSA Programme is aimed to cover the inadequacy of existing teacher strength, additional teachers would be provided to existing schools with inadequacy, in addition to training the existing teachers taking action to grant for developing teaching-learning materials to strengthen the academic support structure at cluster, block and district level. SSA programme seeks to provide quality elementary education including life skills. SSA programme specifically focus on girl’s education and children with special needs. SSA programme seeks to provided computer education towards eliminating the digital divide.
