
Seema Punia is a well-known Indian champion discus thrower who has continually delivered top-end performances internationally. Born in July 27, 1983, in village Khewda, Sonipat District, Haryana, Seema started her journey on the athletics circuit as a hurdler and long jumper, shifting disciplines to discus throw.

World Junior Championships: Originally won gold in 2000, but she was later disqualified after a positive finding for pseudoephedrine. She rebounded well and won a bronze in 2002.

The next time Seema Punia crossed the 60m barrier was at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. The effort fetched her a silver medal, her first medal at the Commonwealth event. She was later conferred with Bhim Award by Haryana’s state government.
