Siddi Tribal Community Achieves 72% Literacy Rate

In a remarkable acknowledgment of progress among tribal communities, the President of India recently praised the Siddi tribal group for reaching a literacy rate of over 72%. This achievement marks a significant milestone for a community recognized as one of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) and highlights the ongoing efforts to empower marginalized groups through education and inclusion.
About Siddi Tribal Community:
The Siddis are an Indo-African ethnic group descended from Bantu peoples of Southeast Africa. They live primarily in the western and southwestern states of India, including Gujarat and Karnataka, and are also found in neighboring Pakistan. On January 8, 2003, they were officially recognized as a Scheduled Tribe (ST). Their main livelihoods revolve around agriculture, collecting forest products, and various forms of manual labor.
