
On March 13, 2025, Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, laid the foundation stone for the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR) in Mawdiangdiang, Shillong. NECTAR is an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India, and it’s all about using technology to drive socio-economic progress in the Northeast. The Minister took the opportunity to showcase NECTAR’s accomplishments in saffron cultivation, drone technology, and STEM education, emphasizing its potential to turn the Northeast into India’s next saffron hub.
