WHY IN NEWS

The Swarnim Vijay Varsh Vicory Flame was taken Indira Point, the southernmost tip of the country on August 22, 2021, as part of its voyage to the Nicobar group of Islands.

INDIRA POINT

  1. It is the Southeren most point of Indian Territory.
  2. It is villege in the Nicobar district at great Nicobar island of Andaman and Nicobar Island.
  3. Formarly the point was known as Pygmalion point and parsous point. It was renamed in honour of Indira Gandhi during mid 1980’s.

SWARNIM VIJAY VARSH

  1. It marks the 50th anniversary of the 1971 India – Pakistan War.
  2. Vijay Diwas is observed every year on December 16 to celebrate India’s Vicotory in liberating Bangladesh.
  3. The victory flame would be taken from North to South corners of India.
