World Handicapped day is also known as the International Day of Persons with disabilities.The 3rd of December is observed annually as the International Day of Disabled Persons, and The day is marked and observed to support critical issues which are related to the inclusion of persons with disabilities. The IDPWD day was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly. The objective of the day is to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, as stated by WHO.
This year’s theme is: “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world”. The day is celebrated to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
